Basic Care

Watches are made of small, delicate mechanisms that work in harmony to keep time. Here are some helpful tips on how to look after your watch.

Leather Straps

  • Frequently wipe off dirt and sweat from your leather band, using a soft dry cloth, to maintain its appearance and durability.
  • Wear your watch lightly loose on the wrist to allow the passage of air that reduces or eliminates sweating that may sometimes cause skin rash. For sensitive skin, use metal bands instead of leather straps.
  • Do not soak or expose leather straps in water or moisture as it may affect its texture.
  • Avoid leaving your watch in direct sunlight; the strap may decolorize. Place it in a well-ventilated area. Never put in storage when it is still damp.

Metal Band

  • Dirt and seat may sometimes cause rust, even on a stainless steel or gold-electroplated band. Metal should be gently cleansed with plain water. After washing, dry the metal band well. Be careful not to drench delicate parts that are not water-resistant.
  • Non water-resistant watches clean with soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid using cleansing liquids because it reduce luster.

Case

  • To keep watch looking new, it should be cleansed inside and out. Remove dirt from the case, glass, band and attaching areas.
  • Wipe the watch completely with soft, dry cloth.
  • Wristwatches should be kept apart from each other so they do not rub against each other. This may cause scratches and signs of wear.

Battery

  • Never leave a drained battery inside your watch, as it may leak and damage the movement.
  • Leaving a watch for a long time in a place of extremely high or low temperature may damage a watch and shorten the lifetime of its power cell.
  • When changing batteries, entrust your watch only to an authorized agent, to maintain the standards set by the watchmaker.

Gemstones on watches

  • Gemstones add beauty and value to a watch. To prevent them from losing their luster and color, avoid exposure to elements such as perfume, soap, cosmetics, hairsprays and acids.
  • Tap water is best for cleaning gemstones.
